(picnic, lightning) by Garlands is an amazing combination of indie, shoegaze, and post-punk that has some of my favorite guitar tones I've heard in an indie release and some amazing riffs. It's very melodic and the mix is fairly spacious, so listening to it with headphones is extremely enjoyable. The vocals resemble the vocals from The Smiths, but that doesn't take away from the uniqueness of this release. The transitions between song tempos in the EP fit the mood well and the mix of more upbeat songs and downbeat songs is spread out very well.
